"Just trust me." Taloula looked at Lain in disgust. He felt a pang of regret in his chest, knowing he'd not been much nicer than the snarling white tiger upstairs was now. She reluctantly pulled herself onto his back and locked her arms around his neck. The blood running down her leg was soaking into her torn jeans with no haste. Pain was coursing through her with every heartbeat that leaked out more of the precious red fluid.

Lain hoisted her up with no problem, bounding out of the house. He could hear Timmy finally coming to his senses, the great beast rumbling down the hall towards the stairs. A very dusty panic-mode kicked in, the haze of colors blinding him for a moment before his red Lamborghini came into focus. Behind him where two distinct noises, a were-tiger hissing and a female groaning in pain. Taloula's cries were softening, she would faint soon from exhaustion, fear, and pain. In seconds he'd made it to his car, placing the girl gently in the passenger's seat. At some point he'd taken off his shirt and wrapped it around the wound, the cougar only knew this because as they screeched away from the street, his chest was unbearably cold.

The wind was whipping through the half-opened window on his side, only a precaution in case Timmy had managed to get in front of them, but bitterly cold. Lain couldn't see where he was going, but his instinct drove his car safely into the sheltering calm of the Liheaha mansion.

Taloula was still half-conscious by the time he laid her down on his bed. She was mumbling incoherently and shaking violently. Lain was finally starting to calm down, knowing that the tiger could not follow them here; a little hex on the mansion would mix up the scent trail left behind by anyone traveling to it, making anyone who was following behind divert from their intended path. Lain rushed to his bathroom, almost ripping the doors off his medicine cabinet for gauze and antiseptics. When he returned, Raver and Arik were in the room, but he ignored them.

Certainly Arik was asking a million questions, but Lain didn't hear them, nor did he care. Certainly Raver was reprimanding him for not taking proper care of his female, and also for that he didn't care to hear. It wasn't until there was a good six or seven layers of gauze around Taloula's leg did Lain look over his shoulders at his companions. The look on their faces would be priceless, had it been any other time but now. Probably, Lain's face was the picture of horror and anguish.

Shaking there on the floor beside Taloula, Lain laid his head against her side. A heavy sigh was in his throat and an even heavy burden in his heart. Footsteps towards the door told him that Arik and Raver had given up their questioning. There was a long silence, long and gut-wrenching. Taloula's breathing shuddered, slowed, then came back to normal. A gentle hand in Lain's hair brought his gaze up to meet the woman's hazy, tired expression. She opened her mouth to speak, but no words came out. When she tried again, Lain shook his head and nuzzled into her hand, "No, thank you for trusting me..."
